The French affiliate to the IAHR is named after Ernest Renan. The first in the series of congresses which led to the foundation of the IAHR took place in Paris in 1900. An IAHR congress was held in 1923 in Paris and an IAHR regional conference also in Paris in 1993. The association publishes a bulletin called Bulletin de la Société Ernest-Renan.
