The second annual conference of the EASR was held in Paris, France, 11-14 September 2002.

“Le monothéisme: diversité, exclusivisme ou dialogue?”
Le monothéisme, si on le distingue d’un fait de religiosité ou de pratique purement individuelle, est un phénomène historique d’apparition relativement récente et de localisation déterminée. Y a-t-il un monothéisme en dehors de l’aire proche orientale, qui a été le foyer des religions actuelles qui se rattachent à cette qualification et qui se sont répandues dans le monde? Quelles ont été les conditions historiques de l’émergence du phénomène? L’innovation a-t-elle été le fait d’une prédication individuelle ou l’issue d’un mouvement de nature collective, politique ou sociale? Y a-t-il une définition du monothéisme ou peut-on définir d’autres concepts concernant ce phénomène religieux? Le monothéisme exclut-il les autres formes de croyances et de pratiques religieuses? La formule du monothéisme n’a-t-elle pas été soumise des l’origine à une certaine instabilité? Le dieu unique pouvait-il être représenté de façon intellectuelle ou plastique? Comment cette conception religieuse de Dieu a-t-elle été influencée par la spéculation philosophique? Telles sont quelques-unes des questions qui seront abordées dans le cadre de ce Colloque d’histoire des religions.

“Monotheism: Diversity, Exclusivism or Dialogue?”
Monotheism, if not considered as a pure fact of individual religiosity or practice, appeared historically at a relatively recent time and in a specific and geographical context and a well located area. Is it possible to find a monotheism outside the near-east area, where the actual monotheistic religions burst out and then spread out among the world ? What are the historical conditions for emergence of the phenomenon ? Is monotheism based on the personal preaching of some individual or does it burst out among a social group, in particular political conditions ? Is there one definition of monotheism or can we define several concepts concerning this religious phenomenon ? Does monotheism exclude the different beliefs of others or any other religion? Is it possible to represent the single god, in an artistic or intellectual way ? What is the relationship between monotheism and philosophy ?These questions, and some others, can be debated at the symposium in Paris in September 2002 by scholars from the European associations for the study of religions.
